AMERICAN LEGACY MAGAZINE
American Legacy Magazine was founded in 1995 by RJR Communications, and American Heritage, a division of Forbes, Inc.  This unique joint venture combines American Heritage’s ability to bring culture and heritage to life with RJR Communication’s circulation, editorial and marketing experience.

The premise behind the premier issue of American Legacy Magazine, in February 1995, was simple:  to provide the African-American community with stories and information that celebrate its history and culture.

After outstanding critical and reader acclaim, American Legacy Magazine made its debut as a quarterly in February 1996.

Editorial focuses on African-American contributions to business, the arts, education, and religion; on developments in African-American culture and society; and on people who fought for racial justice and equality.

Regular features include Pathfinders (profiles of individuals who were outstanding in their particular fields), Cultural Crossroads (reaching beyond the borders of African-American history into Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South Americas, and any place on earth where black men and women have made an impact), Readings (excerpts from newer books of interest to the black community), and Flashback (photographic recollections of the past).

AMERICAN LEGACY MAGAZINE’s distribution is an important part of its mission: by distributing the magazine primarily through churches, as well as schools and charitable organizations, American Legacy Magazine reaches African-Americans who are highly educated and influential, and who are anxious to learn about and share the rich legacy of their community.
